Terms of Service

1. Who Operates This Service

Reminders is operated by Very Simple Systems. In these Terms, “Very Simple Systems,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of Reminders. “Reminders” means the reminder service operated by Very Simple Systems and accessible at reminders.verysimple.systems.

By creating an account or using Reminders, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. What Reminders Does

Reminders is a scheduling and notification tool. You provide a title, due date, reminder schedule preference, and optional notes. Reminders queues email and/or SMS notifications and sends them on the scheduled dates. You can mark reminders complete, reschedule them, or cancel them at any time.

3. What Reminders Does Not Do

Reminders does not:

• Provide legal, immigration, medical, insurance, tax, financial, or any other professional advice.
• Verify deadlines on your behalf or confirm the accuracy of dates you enter.
• Guarantee that email or SMS notifications will be delivered on time or at all.
• Ensure that a backup contact will respond or take action.
• Store or review your identity documents, application materials, or sensitive records.

4. No Professional Advice

Nothing in Reminders — its features, copy, FAQs, or notifications — constitutes legal, immigration, medical, insurance, tax, financial, or professional advice of any kind. Reminders is a reminder tool only. Always consult a qualified professional for matters requiring expert guidance.

5. No Guaranteed Notification Delivery

Notifications are sent on a best-effort basis. Email and SMS delivery can fail, be delayed, be filtered as spam, or be blocked by your carrier or email provider. Very Simple Systems makes no warranty that any specific notification will reach you. You remain solely responsible for monitoring and acting on your deadlines.

6. Your Responsibility for Deadlines

You are solely responsible for verifying all deadlines with the relevant authority, institution, or professional. Do not rely solely on Reminders for critical, time-sensitive, or legally significant deadlines. Reminders is a convenience tool, not a deadline guarantee.

7. Account Registration and Security

You must provide an accurate email address to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your account access secure. Notify us at support@verysimple.systems if you believe your account has been compromised.

8. Free, Priority Reminder, and Plus Features

• Free: Up to 3 reminders, email notifications only, due dates up to 2 years ahead.
• Priority Reminder ($5 one-time per reminder): One deadline cycle, due date up to 5 years ahead, optional SMS reminders and/or backup contact follow-up selected before checkout, one-time. Locked after purchase (see Section 9). Stays active even if a Plus subscription is later cancelled.
• Plus ($8/month or $49/year):Up to 50 reminders, due dates up to 10 years ahead, repeating reminders, SMS reminders (US & Canada), and backup contacts.

Features are subject to change. We will communicate material changes to active subscribers.

9. Priority Reminder Lock After Purchase

When you purchase a Priority Reminder, you must confirm that the reminder will be locked after payment. Once locked, you cannot edit the title, due date, reminder schedule, notes, SMS settings, or backup contact settings. You may still mark the reminder complete, cancel it, or acknowledge notifications. This lock is permanent for the purchased deadline cycle and cannot be reversed.

10. SMS and Email Limitations

SMS notifications are only available for US and Canada (+1 country code) and require a verified phone number. SMS delivery depends on your carrier and is not guaranteed. Plus users receive up to 50 SMS per month as standard; a hard cap of 100 SMS per month applies. Priority Reminder SMS is capped at 10 messages per reminder cycle.

Email delivery is also not guaranteed. Very Simple Systems is not responsible for messages filtered, delayed, or blocked by email providers.

11. Backup Contact Consent Responsibility

If you enable a backup contact, you confirm that the person named has agreed to receive backup contact follow-up emails about your reminder if you do not respond. You are solely responsible for obtaining and maintaining this consent. Very Simple Systems is not responsible for any consequences arising from backup contact follow-up emails sent to backup contacts you have named.

12. Payments, Subscriptions, and Cancellations

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. By completing checkout, you agree to Stripe's terms of service and privacy policy. We do not store your full payment card details.

Plus subscriptions are available monthly at $8/month or yearly at $49/year. Plus subscriptions renew monthly or yearly, depending on the billing interval selected at checkout. You may cancel at any time through the Billing portal in the app. Access continues until the end of the current billing period. Priority Reminder is a one-time payment and does not renew.

13. Refund Policy

Refund terms are described in our Refund Policy. Please read it before purchasing.

14. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Reminders for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
• Attempt to access, scrape, or interfere with any system, database, or infrastructure underlying the service.
• Submit false, misleading, or harmful content.
• Use the service in any way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair it.

15. Account Deletion and Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page. Account deletion removes your data subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable law. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts for violations of these Terms.

16. Early Access Grants

Some features may be offered during early access or by manual account grant. Early Access Plus is not a paid Stripe subscription, and billing will not start automatically from an early-access grant.

17. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Very Simple Systems and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or deadlines, arising out of or related to your use of Reminders, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the claim.

18. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada.

19. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice where reasonably practicable. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
